Our Team Is Growing
As Kasi Law continues to grow, we are adding another Legal Assistant/Litigation Law Clerk to our team. We are looking for an experienced, versatile legal professional who enjoys both hands-on file management and substantive litigation support and is interested in growing with a small, collaborative firm.
About Kasi Law
Kasi Law is a boutique litigation firm based in London, Ontario, representing insurers, businesses and individuals in insurance defence, plaintiff personal injury, accident benefits, commercial and civil litigation. We are a small, collaborative team committed to practical client service, strong advocacy, professionalism, clear communication and continuous improvement.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Legal Assistant/Litigation Law Clerk to provide both day-to-day legal assistance and substantive litigation support across our insurance defence and plaintiff personal injury practices.
This is a genuinely blended role. The successful candidate will assist with the organization and progression of litigation files from opening through resolution or trial, while also completing law clerk work such as productions, medical record review, Affidavits of Documents, chronologies, undertakings and discovery preparation.
The balance between legal-assistant and law-clerk responsibilities may vary based on experience, demonstrated strengths and file needs. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of assigned work, manage competing priorities and recognize when lawyer direction or escalation is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Opening, maintaining and closing electronic and physical files
- Preparing, revising and formatting correspondence, pleadings and routine legal documents
- Managing file-related scheduling, appointments, discoveries, mediations and other litigation events
- Monitoring deadlines, follow-ups, bring-forwards and outstanding file requirements
- Communicating professionally with clients, insurers, opposing counsel, experts, medical providers, court offices and other third parties
- Arranging service, filing and delivery of legal documents
- Requesting, obtaining and following up on medical, employment, income, rehabilitation, insurance and other records
- Reviewing and organizing documentary and medical evidence
- Preparing medical and treatment chronologies, summaries and record synopses
- Preparing and updating Affidavits of Documents, productions, schedules, indexes, briefs and supporting materials
- Tracking undertakings, refusals and outstanding productions
- Assisting with discovery, mediation, motion and trial preparation
- Reviewing files for missing records, correspondence, instructions and outstanding work
- Organizing, naming, importing and maintaining documents in PrimaFact or other approved systems
- Assisting with file cleanup, document review and quality control
- Summarizing transcripts, discoveries, medical evidence and other file materials
- Assisting with billing preparation and file-status updates
- Completing dictation and other routine administrative work where required
- Accurately recording billable and non-billable time in accordance with Firm docketing protocols
- Providing telephone, reception and general office coverage in accordance with office protocols
Who We Are Looking For
We are ideally seeking someone with at least two years of practical Legal Assistant and/or Litigation Law Clerk experience who is comfortable supporting litigation files from opening through trial.
- A post-secondary Law Clerk, Legal Assistant or related diploma or education
- At least 2 years of relevant legal experience
- Insurance defence and/or plaintiff personal injury experience as an asset
- Practical experience with litigation file management, records, productions and legal-document preparation
- Strong organizational, proofreading and time-management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Sound judgment and attention to detail
- The ability to prioritize competing demands and follow assigned work through to completion
- A proactive, self-directed approach while knowing when to seek guidance
- Professionalism, discretion and sensitivity when communicating with clients
- The ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively
- Experience with PrimaFact, PC Law, Microsoft 365, ACL or comparable legal systems
Growth and Development
We want this role to provide room for continued professional development. Depending on experience, performance and demonstrated readiness, responsibilities may grow to include greater independence with productions and Affidavits of Documents, preparation of more complex litigation materials, coordination of procedural steps, and increased responsibility for defined aspects of plaintiff and defence files. Progression will be based on demonstrated competence, judgment, accuracy, reliability, organization, communication and the needs of the Firm.
